1968 Chrysler Newport, 383ci V8. Lowered 2" in the back and probably a little more in the front.

Clayton had a 1970 one of these in teal .it was a cruiser, and so cool to roll around in

Absolutely killer. Is it a survivor or has it been painted? A surprising amount of old sedans like that are still rolling around in amazing original condition. I guess old ladies driving them to church on Sundays and keeping them under cover over the years has something to do with that.
Also, what’d you do to get it sitting down low like that? That stance is peachy.

I remember that! Hadn’t thought about it until you mentioned it though. I had a ‘68 Town & Country (same car but a station wagon) and I absolutely loved it.

Matching interior!

Woah, that beautiful shade of green really transforms the look. The photography skills make all the difference too. I especially like that middle shot. It’s gritty yet true to life, much like the car.
You’re really getting the fall colors into your shots too. I’d love to see more of it here. What’s the interior like?

Ugh, so sexy.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 13:24 |

Repainted unfortunately, it started out gold. It’s just torsion bars tightened down in the front and 2" lowering blocks in the rear. Do the whole job for $40-60.

I appreciate the compliment. Give me a minute and I’ll go grab you an interior shot. It was replaced semi recently so it’s niiiiice.

The car is just so characterful. I love it!
What’s the story behind the lowering? I think it looks great.

That is a very nice car ... congrats !

The grill looks so angry. I had the station wagon version of this and always loved how the front looked.
I lower most stuff I own, I just like the attitude of it, and it actually improved the handling on this car a lot. It’s torsion bar in the front so you just back the ride height bolts out some, and then the rear leaf springs run under the axle so you put a 2" block of aluminum between the leaf and the axle.
Other lowered stuff I’ve had:
And here’s interior pictures. I’m cleaning it out tomorrow. Two weeks of daily driver duty has it a little messy:

I just noticed it is a pillarless hardtop. You’re right, “attitude” describes it very well.
I really like lowered SUVs. That Suburban in particular is very nice. You’ve had some interesting vehicles!
The tan inserts on green vinyl works so well on this car. Looks like a nice place to spend some time.

I put 1000 miles on it in the first 8 days, I just love driving it even if it’s expensive as hell to do so.
I’ve got more pictures of it when it was stock height and my other cars on my insta
gram (@daymotorsport) if you wanted to check it out.
This was one of mine, too, and I wrote the ad lol:

Love it, I have been looking at similar, never had a big American boat, and love the lower, wider late 50s early to mid sixties styling.

That’s a gorgeous old barge! :D

That 24SX is something else. Worst car on Craigslist is a little harsh but you seem to have a sense of humor about it.
Your Chrysler Newport seems like a car that is made for driving. Just slow deliberate cruising. It’s a very charismatic thing that’s for sure. I don’t doubt the 1000 miles part.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 14:16 |

What a beauty. Lowering the car does give the car a menacing stance, and I super dig it. It’s subtle, but noticeable , and doesn’t take away from the styling of the car. Very good pick, enjoy the toy!

Gorgeous! As a kid, my next door neighbor had a 68 New Yorker 4 door hardtop - also green with a black vinyl roof, but it was more of a pea green. Brings back memories!

That is a magnificent beast!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 14:45 |

Sweet car! It certainly has a lot of attitude. Big old American cars like that are what first made me fall in love with classic cars. My tastes have broadened since then, but I still love the old land yachts. I even daily drive a ‘66 Th underbird now. Hope to see you around here more often!

Ooh. Thats a spicy meatball.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 15:32 |

“About 2” lower” is how every car from 1953-83 was designed to be lol. Especially in the 50s. Back then when lots of cars had hand painted magazine ads It wasn’t uncommon for the artist to render the car a fair bit lower than it was in reality.
So really you’ve just finished what the original designer had in mind.

Nice! I had a girlfriend in college who had a ‘67, looked just about like that, but yellowish tan.
Always loved the styling of thos
e big slab-sided Mopars

illarless hardtops are fantastic and lowering makes them

Oh that thing is sweet. Just needs a 12valve and a hood stack
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:51 |

It’s good for slow but it also does 80 on the highway fine and it corners pretty flat now that the suspension is cranked down. Not like autocross flat, but it inspires a lot more confidence going around corners at 55 or so.
And yeah the worst car on Craigslist bit made me laugh, it was pretty rough. No hard feelings at all.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:51 |

That’s pretty high praise, thank you!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:53 |

It doesn’t even really scrape if you’re using your head. Biggest thing is just remembering to pull out of driveways at 45 degree angles and stuff
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:54 |

These were my first love too. Big American classics and hot rods. I’ve got a super weird variety of tastes as well.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:54 |

You’d be amazed how many people saw it like a day or two before I lowered it and couldn’t figure ou t what was different.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 17:55 |

I’ve had a few of them, including this same car but in yellow as a station wagon. They’re super fun.

I’ve often thought about getting an old microcar/minicar to complement my T-bird... It would help offset the gas-thirsty nature of my big V8, plus it’d look hilarious parked next to a giant old American car :P
![]() 09/30/2020 at 19:55 |

I don’t know my sixties Mopar platforms very well, but we had a 65 Dodge Polara (I can barely remember) matched the general shape and foot print of your car pretty well.

Very cool. I have a soft spot for big chryslers of this era.

Nice to see you, and congrats on the toy. Whatever happened with the old truck?

Steps:
1. Buy Vanguard-Sebring Citicar
2. Put in trunk of T-Bird

Both C-Bodies! The ‘65s were a good looking car too.

The yellow one?

How have you been? I remember having some pretty good conversations back in the day.
![]() 10/02/2020 at 12:14 |

Hmm.
I think that’s a tad too tall. I’d have to remove the trunk lid, and then my suspension in the rear would get much lower... Everyone will think I’m a lowrider enthusiast with a massive cheese addiction.

I’m doing alright, all things considered. This hybrid teaching stuff is crazy hard, but my family is all heathy.
How have you been?
![]() 10/05/2020 at 09:07 |

So what’s the problem? lol
![]() 10/05/2020 at 09:11 |

Ups and downs, just told this girl I’m in love with that I can’t keep talking to her because she’s not there yet and it just rips my heart out to not be able to be with her. So I haven’t slept in like 3 days.
But, I’m closing on the construction loan on my house in two weeks, and I’ve got 4 automotive toys to play with.
I’m glad your family is doing well. How do you do shop remotely anyway?
![]() 10/05/2020 at 12:16 |
|
Oh, yeah that’s rough. You’ll get through it, but when you’re in it ... it just plain sucks. That’s good that you have some things to keep you occupied.
We’re not remote, we’re hybrid. That’s what makes it so hard. I teach three grade levels, and among each of them I have a group that comes to school Monday and Tuesday, another group that comes to school Thursday and Friday, another group that comes all four of those days, and another group that doesn’t come at all. I have to teach all four of those groups at the same time. Then there has been the added complication of some kids getting pulled in and out of school at any time due to COVID symptoms and/or exposures. I’ve never worked harder in my life.
![]() 10/05/2020 at 12:20 |

Yeah that sounds difficult as hell. I wish I hadn’t of listened to my principal and gone to auto tech like I wanted to. Probably wouldn’t be so automotively inept at this point.
![]() 10/05/2020 at 12:48 |
|
It’s tough, because the way things are set up at most schools these days, is anybody who even might potentially be college bound, is steered away from anything automotive. In the school I went to, you had to take a bus to the community college 45 minutes away. It killed half a school day to take that one class.
![]() 10/06/2020 at 10:47 |
|
Yeah that’s pretty much exactly what happened with me. Didn’t end up going to college though.
Got a date Saturday btw, probably the last hurrah for the Newport this year.
